Following the dying of the Dead Kennedys in the estrus of the fiscal and emotional cataclysm that was their 1986 obscenity test, vocalist and free-speech icon Jello Biafra launched a solo vocation, devoting some of his releases to spoken discourse observations on American acculturation and politics and others to collaborative efforts with several bands. Biafra was born Eric Boucher in Boulder, CO, and began collection odd records in high school. He moved to San Francisco and took his stage bring up from the war-ravaged African land so called Biafra, appending the nominate of the democratic sweet substance because he liked the direction the 2 sounded together. Biafra formed the Dead Kennedys in 1978, and the band cursorily gained a following thanks to their hyper-driven sonic assault and Biafra's nasal consonant bone, large (and a great deal quite suspicious) political rantings. In 1979, a year earlier the Kennedys' influential debut, Unused Fruit for Rotting Vegetables, was released, Biafra ran for mayor of San Francisco on a calculate; his weapons platform included belongings auctions for high-level metropolis authorities positions, setting up a ascendency board of graft to deal strong drink licenses and building codes, bAN automobiles in the city limits, forcing business community to trim in buffoon suits, and allowing vagrants legal access to evacuate buildings. (Voters evidently set the caustic remark compelling sufficiency to spot Biafra fourth out of ten candidates.)

Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables suffered distribution problems undischarged to the Dead Kennedys' nominate and national matter, so Biafra formed his possess Alternative Tentacles label in 1981 to counter the majors' reluctance to pass around his material. When the Kennedys included a placard of H.R. Giger's painting Landscape #20 (Phallus Landscape), which pictured rows of penises intermeshed in anal carnal knowledge, in their 1985 album Frankenchrist, the band and label were prosecuted under California obscenity statutes for distributing "harmful matter to minors." Biafra's apartment was looted by law, and a trial was undertaken in April 1986 that lasted over a year; a hung jury resulted in the charges organism dropped.

The already politically conscious Biafra emerged as an enunciate champion of free language, and with the Kennedys' breakup, he hit the college speech tour with a retribution, expounding his views on American culture with a righteous angriness and vitriolic wag. His first gear solo recordings were spoken word personal business draftsmanship on his lecturing material -- No More Cocoons appeared in 1987, with High Priest of Harmful Matter: Tales from the Trial, a elaborate, humorous account of the dirty word test, following in 1989. Other spoken news releases would pop up from time to time, including 1991's I Blow Minds for a Living and 1994's three-CD set Beyond the Valley of the Gift Police. Biafra also offered frequent collaborations with former artists: the Lard project with Ministry's Al Jourgensen and Paul Barker (1988's Ability of Lard EP, 1990's The Last Temptation of Reid); the D.O.A.-backed Concluding Scream of the Missing Neighbors EP (1990); a 1991 outing with Nomeansno entitled The Sky Is Falling, and I Want My Mommy; a side plan with members of Steel Pole Bath Tub and King Snake Roost called Tumor Circus, which released a self-titled album in 1991; an EP with Plainfield; and several collaborations with Mojo Nixon, including an EP centered about the rural area mockery "Will the Fetus Be Aborted" and the 1994 album Prairie Home Invasion.

In one of the most flakey and least likely mishaps kindling fans could conceive of, Biafra was attacked at a San Francisco club in 1994 by skinheads wHO had somehow gotten the idea that he was a sellout; he was hospitalized for a time with two broken legs. After reverting to Lard in 1997 for a new album, Pure Chewing Satisfaction, he issued the solo If Evolution Is Outlawed, Only Outlaws Will Evolve a yr by and by and Become the Media in fall 2000. The Big Ka-Boom, Pt. 1 from 2002 was a 33-minute-long delivery about the warfare on terrorist act spell Machine Gun in the Clown's Hand from later on that twelvemonth featured trine discs' charles Frederick Worth of spoken son from 2000-2002. The 2004 release Never Breathe What You Can't See set up Biafra ranting over the heavy music of the Melvins. The coaction continued on 2005's Sieg Howdy, which featured a cover version of the Alice Cooper classic "Doughnut of Flies." The three-CD set In the Grip of Official Treason landed in 2006.

Pilot Preview: CBS’ ‘Project Gary’ Gives Jay Mohr a Job

Courtesy of CBS
This week, Vulture's taking a look at the best and worst of the new season's picked-up TV shows. Which are good? Can anything replace Cavemen? And, most important, what's worth a DVR season pass?

Title: Project Gary

Stars: Jay Mohr, Paula Marshall, Larry Miller, Jaime King

Network: CBS, Wednesdays at 8:30 p.m.

The pitch: Jay Mohr stars as Gary Barnes, a recently divorced father of two who must learn to balance his new single life with his neurotic ex-wife. High jinks ensue.

Pilot report: Three months after getting divorced from his wife of fifteen years, Gary, a painting contractor, hooks up with Vanessa (King), a woman whose condo he's painting. After a hot first night, things are looking promising — that is, until Gary's ex-wife Allison (Marshall) shows up in the morning to drop off their two preteen kids. It turns out Gary forgot to mention he was carrying some extra baggage, which sends Vanessa angrily out the back door. In order to get a second shot, Gary must prove to Vanessa that he can have an honest relationship with her by being open about things with his anal-retentive ex. When Gary begins to confess to Allison that he's ready to move forward with his life, she trumps him by revealing that she's engaged — to their former marriage counselor (Miller). Awkward. Luckily, Vanessa takes Gary back, but not without revealing that she's got some baggage of her own: She's a single mom. Guess everyone’s even now! And so this crazy multi-cam family happily ends their day eating pizza together.

Representative dialogue:

Gary: Allison, what are you doing here? It's not my weekend.Allison: All you have in your refrigerator is two beers and a bottle of ranch dressing.Gary: Yeah, I know, I'm running low on beer.

Breakout star: With turns in Nip/Tuck, Veronica Mars, and Out of Practice, Paula Marshall isn't exactly new to prime time — but thanks to her solid deadpan delivery, she makes her character enjoyable beyond the limits of the shrill ex-wife stereotype.

Worth a season pass? Even if the crop of fall offerings is famine-thin, we're afraid not. The kids are props, Jaime King is just another hot chick, and we could barely identify Christopher Guest company favorite Larry Miller in the wreckage. And Jay Mohr? Old dog, old tricks. —Jessica Coen

Justin Timberlake - Timberlake To Pen Perform Ellens Wedding Song

JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE has offered to pen and perform a one-off song for ELLEN DEGENERES and PORTIA DE ROSSI's wedding ceremony.

The comedienne-turned-chat show host went public with plans to wed her longtime partner during a taping of her daily show, which aired on Friday (16May08).

The big announcement came a day after California's same-sex marriage ban was overturned by Supreme Court judges, who declared the original ruling was unconstitutional.

And Timberlake was among the first to congratulate the couple when he appeared on the show minutes later.

Laughing off the suggestion that he should marry his girlfriend, Jessica Biel - and make the event a double wedding, the SexyBack singer offered, "No... but I'll sing at your wedding."

He insisted he was deadly serious and said he'd put words De Rossi and DeGeneres wrote to music for the special ceremony, which thrilled the host and her girlfriend, who was sitting in the audience.

He said, "You should have an original wedding song; I think it's only fitting.

"(Write down) everything you want to say to Portia and everything you wanna say to Ellen... and I'll put it to music and it'll be amazing."
